WHAT THEY SAY
Bonus SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Love this watch, well developed and respectable reserve ability, it has not discontinued yet, mine is just a little fast however, not a big concern.
This is a great entry into automatic wrist watches, the Seiko activity has an extended history of reliability.
Great watch that came on time. It exceeded my prospects. Fit and finish off was beautiful. Well packaged. The watch helps to keep excellent time right out of the box.
A hi-tech, 23 jewels, automatic movement identifies the Seiko Automatic Sports and earns it its classic position. This analog watch is guaranteed by 23 jewels; the hands are luminous and silver-toned while baton hour-markers add extra awareness. The watch also shows particular date and resists normal water for up to 100 feet. An ideal watch for a circular of beach volleyball, the silver-toned stainless link bracelet will maintain it in place.
SEIKO 5 – this is of the “5” A great marketer had the theory in the 70ies: to be a SEIKO 5, the watch has to have the next 5 (five) features (thus the name SEIKO 5):
- Water resistant,
- Shock resistant,
Please note that some SEIKO 5’s are in fact SEIKO 4’s, if the “Day” function is omitted, then your Caliber 7S25 is used. Really the only difference to the normally found 7S26 is the omission of the day wheel.
Also re-issues of SEIKO 5 Sports activities often use the 7S36 caliber. Again the 7S36 is similar to the most popular 7S26, yet it features 23 Jewels instead of the 21 Jewels in the 7S26.
Please note that all these movements defeat at a rate of 21’600 bph (beats per hour) or 6 bps (beats per second).
As a contrast, an ETA 2824-2 beats at 28’800 bph or 8 bps. A Miyota 82xx beats at 21’600 bph.
Why must i point out these three moves?
Because they’re found in probably 80% of all inexpensive automatic wrist watches. A market share that is huge, yet challenged nowadays (2006) by a growing talk about of inexpensive China Made automated movements An automatic watch (also called a self-winding watch) is a mechanical watch, typically with an equilibrium wheel escapement, whose mainspring is wound by the motion of the wearer’s arm, rather than needing to be wound by hand every day.
Whereas a quartz watch is power by electricity, a mechanical watch is powered by a mainspring which must be rewound for the watch to keep time.
THE CASE AND CRYSTAL
For SNK enthusiasts who want those watch conditions were bigger, the hold out is finally over. The SNZG15 measures a robust 42 mm which is 12 mm solid. Which means its measurements are bigger than the old-style men’s wristwatches, but is noticeably smaller than the outrageously huge wristwatches you commonly see today.
The top circumstance includes a brushed finish off, as well as polished end on the sides. The crystal is Seiko’s own hardlex crystal, which is extremely scratch resistant. It’s also water resistant up to 100 meters.
The dial design seems a little busy, though it does have a fairly nice arrangement which makes everything still readable. The exterior ring shows the prominent numbered markings, while an internal ring provides armed forces time. Your day and particular date info is included at the 3 o’clock position.
The hour and minute hands are substantive with a pointy end, while the second hand is just a good sliver. The dark dial offsets the hands and markers very well. The lume is great, as it glows brightly for 7 or 8 time.
The automatic mechanical 7S36 watch activity is correct and reliable, with variances which range from -20 moments to +40 seconds a day. That doesn’t quite compare with the best Swiss and Japanese automatic movements, but for an entry level watch it’s more than sufficient.
It includes a do better than rate of 21600 BPH, so you don’t get the unique ticking from a quartz watch that may be annoying at night when everything’s quiet. You’ve got a 40-hour ability reserve which means you can take it off at night and never have to worry that it’ll stop working.
This is perhaps the weakest link in the Seiko 5 SNZG15, and it’s the reason why the SNZG15 is a few us dollars cheaper than the Seiko 5 SNZG13. The 22 mm nylon strap can feel a little too hard at first, and you’ll need time to break it in. It’ll do the job well enough eventually though.
For a few, the nylon looks quite cheap so it doesn’t match the noiseless selling point of the Seiko 5 SNZG15. But with NATO or leather straps you may easily buy in stores and online, it will look far better.
PROS & CONS Bonus SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Basically, what we have here is an entry level armed forces field watch, and it’s really rugged operation and design are excellent.
The dial provides info readily, and even at night there is no problem telling the time. The hands are brightly luminous at night, and it generally does not fade for many hours.
The exactness is good enough for most people.
The “provenance” (history), is nice, as it goes back to an earlier era when watches such as these were worn on the field of fight.
How big is the case is perfect for people that have bigger wrists, but even for common wrists it doesn’t really look too large.
For the nylon strap disadvantage, for some it’s actually nice enough to wear as is. But also for the most part, people don’t buy the Seiko 5 SNZG15 for the strap. You may easily change the strap to NATO or leather and which should improve its look even more.
