WHAT THEY SAY
Bonuses SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Love this watch, well developed and decent reserve ability, it hasn’t stopped yet, mine is just a little fast but not a big concern.
That is a great entry into automatic wrist watches, the Seiko movements has a long history of reliability.
Great watch that came up promptly. It exceeded my prospects. Fit and finish was beautiful. Well packaged. The watch retains excellent time right from the box.
A hi-tech, 23 jewels, automatic movement defines the Seiko Auto Sports and earns it its typical position. This analog watch is backed by 23 jewels; the hands are luminous and silver-toned while baton hour-markers add extra visibility. The watch also shows particular date and resists drinking water for up to 100 feet. The perfect watch out for a circular of beach volleyball, the silver-toned stainless hyperlink bracelet will maintain it set up.
SEIKO 5 – the meaning of the “5” An excellent marketer had the theory in the 70isera: to be always a SEIKO 5, the watch really needs the following 5 (five) features (thus the name SEIKO 5):
- Water resistant,
- Shock resistant,
Please note that some SEIKO 5’s are actually SEIKO 4’s, if the “Day” function is omitted, then the Caliber 7S25 is used. The only real difference to the normally found 7S26 is the omission of the day wheel.
Also re-issues of SEIKO 5 Activities often use the 7S36 caliber. Again the 7S36 is similar to typically the most popular 7S26, yet it features 23 Jewels instead of the 21 Jewels in the 7S26.
Please note that all these movements conquer at a level of 21’600 bph (beats each hour) or 6 bps (beats per second).
As a contrast, an ETA 2824-2 beats at 28’800 bph or 8 bps. A Miyota 82xx beats at 21’600 bph.
Why do you talk about these three activities?
Because they are within probably 80% of most inexpensive automatic designer watches. A market share that is huge, yet challenged these days (2006) by an increasing show of inexpensive China Made computerized movements An automated watch (also known as a self-winding watch) is a mechanical watch, typically with a balance wheel escapement, whose mainspring is wound by the movement of the wearer’s arm, instead of needing to be wound by hand every day.
Whereas a quartz watch is driven by electricity, a mechanical watch is driven with a mainspring which must be rewound for the watch to keep time.
THE CASE AND CRYSTAL
For SNK enthusiasts who want those watch cases were bigger, the put it off is finally over. The SNZG15 actions a robust 42 mm which is 12 mm dense. That means its measurements are bigger than the old-style men’s designer watches, but is noticeably smaller than the outrageously huge watches you commonly see today.
The top case includes a brushed finish, as well as polished finish off on the edges. The crystal is Seiko’s own hardlex crystal, which is extremely scratch resistant. It is also water resistant up to 100 meters.
The dial design seems somewhat busy, although it does have a rather nice arrangement which makes everything still readable. The outer band shows the dominant numbered markings, while an inner ring provides military services time. Your day and date info is featured at the 3 o’clock position.
The hour and minute hands are significant with a pointy end, while the second hand is merely a nice sliver. The dark dial offsets the hands and markers perfectly. The lume is great, as it glows brightly for up to 7 or 8 time.
The automatic mechanical 7S36 watch motion is exact and reliable, with variances which range from -20 a few moments to +40 seconds a day. That doesn’t quite compare with the best Swiss and Japanese programmed movements, but also for an entry level watch it’s more than sufficient.
It offers a do better than rate of 21600 BPH, and that means you do not get the unique ticking from a quartz watch that may be annoying during the night when everything’s peaceful. There is a 40-hour electricity reserve so you can take it off during the night and never have to worry that it’ll stop working.
This is perhaps the weakest link in the Seiko 5 SNZG15, and it’s the reason why the SNZG15 is a few dollars cheaper than the Seiko 5 SNZG13. The 22 mm nylon strap can feel a lttle bit too hard at first, and you will need a while to break it in. It’ll do the job well enough eventually though.
For a few, the nylon looks quite cheap so that it doesn’t match the calm selling point of the Seiko 5 SNZG15. But with NATO or leather straps you can certainly buy to get and online, it will look far better.
PROS & CONS Bonuses SEIKO 5 SPORTS Automatic Strap Watch SNZG15J1 Mens
Basically, what we’ve here is an entry level armed forces field watch, and it’s really rugged efficiency and design are great.
The dial provides info immediately, and even during the night there is no problem telling enough time. The hands are brightly luminous in the dark, and it doesn’t fade for many hours.
The reliability is sufficient for many people.
The “provenance” (record), is nice, as it goes back to an earlier era when designer watches such as these were worn on the field of challenge.
The size of the situation is ideal for people that have bigger wrists, but even for standard wrists it doesn’t really look too large.
For the nylon strap disadvantage, for some it’s actually nice enough to wear as is. But for the most part, people don’t buy the Seiko 5 SNZG15 for the strap. You can certainly change the strap to NATO or leather and that should improve its look even more.
