Love this watch, well built and reasonable reserve electric power, it hasn’t ceased yet, mine is just a little fast but not a big concern.

That is a great admittance into automatic wrist watches, the Seiko motion has a long history of consistency.

Great watch that emerged on time. It exceeded my objectives. Fit and finish was beautiful. Well packed. The watch continues excellent time right out of the box.

A hi-tech, 23 jewels, automatic movement identifies the Seiko Automatic Sports and makes it its classic position. This analog watch is supported by 23 jewels; the hands are luminous and silver-toned while baton hour-markers add extra visibility. The watch also shows night out and resists drinking water for 100 feet. The perfect watch for a circular of beach volleyball, the silver-toned stainless link bracelet will keep it in place.

Product description

SEIKO 5 – the meaning of the “5” A great marketer had the theory in the 70ies: to be a SEIKO 5, the watch has to have the following 5 (five) features (thus the name SEIKO 5):

  1. Automatic,
  2. Water resistant,
  3. Shock resistant,
  4. Date,
  5. Day.

Please be aware that some SEIKO 5’s are actually SEIKO 4’s, if the “Day” function is omitted, then your Caliber 7S25 is used. The only difference to the normally found 7S26 is the omission of your day wheel.

Also re-issues of SEIKO 5 Athletics often use the 7S36 caliber. Again the 7S36 is comparable to the most popular 7S26, yet it features 23 Jewels as opposed to the 21 Jewels in the 7S26.

Please note that these movements conquer at a level of 21’600 bph (beats per hour) or 6 bps (beats per second).

As a contrast, an ETA 2824-2 beats at 28’800 bph or 8 bps. A Miyota 82xx beats at 21’600 bph.

Why should i mention these three activities?

Because they are within probably 80% of most inexpensive automatic wrist watches. A market share that is huge, yet challenged nowadays (2006) by a growing talk about of inexpensive China Made automated movements An automatic watch (also known as a self-winding watch) is a mechanical watch, typically with an equilibrium steering wheel escapement, whose mainspring is wound by the motion of the wearer’s arm, rather than needing to be wound manually every day.

Whereas a quartz watch is power by electricity, a mechanised watch is power by a mainspring which must be rewound for the watch to keep time.

For SNK enthusiasts who wish those watch conditions were bigger, the wait around is finally over. The SNZG15 steps a solid 42 mm and is also 12 mm thick. Which means its sizes are bigger than the old-style men’s designer watches, but is noticeably smaller than the outrageously huge watches you commonly see today.

The top case includes a brushed finish off, as well as refined carry out on the factors. The crystal is Seiko’s own hardlex crystal, which is extremely scratch resistant. It’s also water-resistant up to 100 meters.

The dial design seems a bit busy, although it does have a fairly nice arrangement that makes everything still readable. The external ring shows the prominent numbered markings, while an inner ring provides armed forces time. The day and date info is highlighted at the 3 o’clock position.

The hour and minute hands are large with a pointy end, as the second hand is just a good sliver. The black dial offsets the hands and markers beautifully. The lume is great, as it glows brightly for 7 or 8 time.

The automatic mechanised 7S36 watch movement is appropriate and reliable, with variances ranging from -20 a few moments to +40 moments a day. It doesn’t quite equate to the best Swiss and Japanese automated movements, but also for an entry level watch it’s more than sufficient.

It offers a beat rate of 21600 BPH, so you do not get the specific ticking from a quartz watch that can be annoying during the night when everything’s quiet. You’ve got a 40-hour vitality reserve so you can take it off at night and never have to worry that it’ll stop working.

This is possibly the weakest link in the Seiko 5 SNZG15, and it’s the key reason why the SNZG15 is a few us dollars cheaper than the Seiko 5 SNZG13. The 22 mm nylon strap can feel a little too hard initially, and you will need time to break it in. It’ll do the job sufficiently eventually though.

For a few, the nylon appears quite cheap so it doesn’t match the quiet selling point of the Seiko 5 SNZG15. But with NATO or leather straps you may easily buy to get and online, it will look far better.

PROS & CONS seiko 5 sports review

Basically, what we have here is an basic level military services field watch, and it’s rugged efficiency and design are excellent.

  • The dial provides info readily, and even at night there is no problem telling the time. The hands are brightly luminous in the dark, and it doesn’t fade for many hours.

  • The precision is good enough for most people.

  • The “provenance” (record), is nice, as it dates back to a youthful era when wristwatches such as we were holding worn on the field of struggle.

  • The size of the truth is perfect for those with bigger wrists, but even for regular wrists it doesn’t really look too big.

As for the nylon strap disadvantage, for some it’s actually nice enough to wear as is. But also for the most part, people don’t choose the Seiko 5 SNZG15 for the strap. You can certainly change the strap to NATO or leather and which should improve its look even more.
